A Trip to Suburbia

Tucked away in the burbs of Toulouse, I took the opportunity to snap some pictures of a typical French home while I was helping my girlfriends move out of their host family accommodations, to their new apartment.
The outside of the home, gave no indication as to what would be lurking through the front door, as all the houses on the street seemed to melt into each other. Once inside, I found a peculiar three story dwelling oozing with charm.

The foyer opened on to the kitchen, a small den and living room. The living room was cluttered with what seemed to be everything old and new. A piano, a T.V. tucked inside an armoire and a marvellous staircase leading to the second level that separated off the dining room. Off of the dining room, was the most fabulous mess of a kitchen. The nucleus of which was a well loved butchers block table, fully equipped with crumbs from the mornings breakfast of nutella, yogurt and baguette. Exposed stone walls blended into warm hardwoods, cradling the weeks stock of leeks and onions (how delightfully stereotypical).

Up the first flight of stairs you come across four bedrooms and a bathroom. The master and three girls rooms, were adorned with lust-worthy furniture such as an old card catalogue,  a four poster bed, a white wash wire bed, an old artists table and a plethora perfectly paint chipped dressers.

Not to mention the gorgeous swan tilling in the bathroom (which I gushed over for probably ten minutes...sorry girls). Up the last, very tiny, very steep stair case, you found four more spaces. A girls room, a teenage boys room, one miniature bathroom (with an equally miniature celling) and a darling rooftop terrace.

Its a week from Valentines day which means I will be spend approx three hours working out everyday (idealy) so I can look TIGHT in my not so designer , not so fabulous lingerie. Other then that I will be consuming lots of cheese, bread and wine... because thats what the French do (assimilation) . Oh right and I have to go to school, maybe... its minus 3 and the university shuts down when its this "cold". Perfect, more time to eat brie...  work out ... and pick out lingerie outfits.

THE SHIRT

So you don't want to buy new lingerie because you
A. like to spend your money on more practical things like...door mats and Canada Savings Bonds
or
B.  spend all your money on "les pain au chocolat", organic fruit and train tickets (and maybe the occasional designer lipstick)

Either way, you will always look like a ten in one of his button downs and a pair of heels.
Maybe toss on a Yankees hat or a tie for a prop.  A touch of makeup highlighting your features and Voila!
You too can ooze your " I always look good kind of beauty" like our friend below.

Happy love making to all and to all a good night

DIY Boutonniere

I love pins, brooches, and anything you can clip, stick or fasten to something else.
I was looking through some mens street swear shots and was inspired by the classic rose boutonniere on a lapel.  Here is my more casual, more feminine version. I hope you enjoy!

First of all, pick your flowers. I got these from a street vendor, right by my metro station.

In my tutorial, I've only used one flower, however you can have as many as you would like. Just arrange them in your mini bouquet, how you would like them to look in the boutonniere.

You will need : flowers, florist tape, scissors and large pins

Cut your stem so its about four or five inches long

If you have never worked with florist tape before don't worry, the only thing you need to know is that you have to stretch the tape to release "the sticky".  Maybe practice wrapping up a pen or pencil first, before you go to town on that perfect stem.

The tricky part is getting the initial adhesion at the top of the stem, pull the tape tight and wrap it around twice to get a solid start. Then start angling the tape, working your way down the stem ( or stems )  like so. Be sure to always be tugging a little bit on the tape so it sticks together.

Once your done just tear the tape and seal up the loose end

Now, fold your stem in half and begin wrapping again. This time starting from the bottom up, wrapping up the folded stem ( don't worry if your stem breaks, as you can see mine did here, it all depends on the strength of the flower you choose).

Wrap, wrap, wrap and seal off the end.

Now take your pin and tape  it in place, leaving half of it exposed

Attach to a lapel and your all done!
The perfect floral addition to a blazer, giving it that spring/summer touch.
Or a great way to save some costs while putting on a wedding.
